Electric Skillet vs Electronic Frying Pan

Is there a difference between the two? Nope, they are the same thing :)

Important Buying Considerations

1) How much should you spend?

There’s no right or wrong answer. It all depends on your budget and how often you plan to use the electric skillet.

Budget Shoppers

For budget shoppers it can be tempting to buy the cheapest option. This is ok as long as it has all the features you desire and quality materials so that the appliance can last for years. You may have to give up some fancy features, but in the end you’ll still be able to cook meals that are just as delicious.

Feature Focused Shoppers

On the other spectrum, some are attracted to luxury items or have a wish-list of specific features they want the appliance to have (stainless steel, dishwasher safe, etc). Often with luxury goods you’re paying for the brand name. It’s important to make sure that it’s truly a quality product, that can sustain years of use, and has all the features you desire.

2) How Easy is it to Clean? 3 Factors to Consider:

  • Dishwasher Safe: Some electric skillets are dishwasher safe, while others need to be cleaned with a wash rag by hand. Make sure you’re aware of these facts before purchasing or you could face an unpleasant surprise.
  • Non-Stick Surface: Another factor to consider is the surface of the pan. A non-stick surface will make the clean up process much easier and is highly recommended.
  • Appliance Design: A smart design can make cleaning the skillet a breeze. Many appliances have a removable skillet pan that can be popped into the dishwasher.

3) Lid Features: Material, Vents & Pouring Spouts

  • Metal Lid: A metal lid is preferable to some for its durability. If you are looking for an electric skillet with a metal lid, consider buying one with a stainless steel lid to avoid rust stains.
  • Glass Lid: A glass lid is a nice feature because you can see the food throughout the cooking process. The downside is that it’s more fragile than a metal lid.
  • Vent in the Lid: Not all electric skillets have a vent in their lids. Many prefer to have a lid with a vent, because without a vent the pressure can build up in the skillet and liquid may start boiling over. For those that prefer an air tight cooking environment, then make sure to get an electric skillet without a vent or pour spout.
  • Lid Height: A rounded lid will enable you to cook a greater variety of foods with the extra height it provides. A flat lid will make it difficult to cook taller food items.
  • Heat Resistant Lid Handle: A lid with a heat resistant handle is ideal, so that you don’t need to use pot holders. Some glass lids have a metal handle, which isn’t ideal.
  • Pouring Spout: Some skillets have  built in spout to pour excess liquid from the skillet.
  • Clip On Lids: Some lids have clips to allow for easy transport of food in the electric skillet without worrying about anything spilling.
